Petra Grüne has been the head of the events department of the Federal Agency for Civic Education / bpb since 2006. Petra Grüne has been working at bpb since 1991 in a number of different fields and positions, including heading a comprehensive evaluation of the bpb that eventually led to a restructuring of the organisation in 2000. In 2004 together with European partners she established NECE – Networking European Citizenship Education – as a platform for European exchange on Citizenship Education, that extended its outreach to the MENA region in 2012 via the NECE Focus Group “Exchange between Europe and North Africa. Petra Grüne studied Sociology, Sinology and Communication Research in Bonn and Shanghai.

Bpb (Federal Agency for Civic Education)
The Bpb (Federal Agency for Civic Education/ Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung) is a federal public authority providing citizenship education and information on political issues for all people in Germany. The work done by the bpb centres on promoting awareness for democracy and participation in politics.
Considering Germany’s experience with various forms of dictatorial rule down through its history, the Federal Republic of Germany bears a unique responsibility for firmly anchoring values such as democracy, pluralism and tolerance in people’s minds.
Being an institution entrusted with providing the kind of civic education specified in the German constitution, it also supports events organised by more than 400 approved educational establishments, foundations and non-governmental organisations involved in civic education in the Federal Republic of Germany.
